There’s no multiplayer in Wolfenstein 2, because it would “dilute” the story

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus won’t contain multiplayer, as it would “dilute” the game. Machine Games’ narrative designer Tommy Tordsson Bjork says the studio’s focus on single-player games will be pivotal to the game’s success.

Here’s our Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus perks guide.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.bizat Gamescom, Bjork says “the only way we can create these super immersive narrative experiences is if we can solely focus on the single-player. Having a multiplayer component in this work process would just dilute it all. That’s the danger if you try to do two things at once. We just keep our heads together, and focus on making a really good single-player game… Doing our thing is what makes the game great.”

Wolfenstein II will be the third Wolfenstein game Machine Games will have developed since 2014; Wolfenstein: The New Order was followed by The Old Blood, a prequel, in 2015. None of those three games contain any multiplayer elements.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus releases on Friday, October 27, and will feature Hitler himself – the former German leader features at the end of the game’s launch trailer.
