There will be far fewer duplicates in your Overwatch Loot boxes

Big changes are coming to Overwatch, or at least in how Blizzard’s shooter deals with doling out loot. From the next patch, there will be a drastic reduction in duplicates from opened Loot Boxes.

“We are going to make significant improvements to the Loot Box experience,” game director Jeff Kaplan says in a developer update video. “One of the things that we’re going to do is drastically reduce the rate of duplicates that you’ll get out of any Loot Box. We think this will be immediately evident and extremely significant for all of our players, and we think it’s going to feel fantastic.”

You won’t see duplicates anywhere near as much. There will still be duplicates, but it’s a drastic change. The changes will be live in Overwatch 1.13 and you can try them out now in the PTR. The recent Twitch Gold Loot Box was clearly an experiment, as most players were reporting bagging a non-duplicate legendary from that crate.

Now, don’t think this means you won’t be earning credits – you will still be able to buy the things you want. That’s because Blizzard are compensating us all by increasing the amount of Credits we get out of Loot Boxes. Credit intake will be the same, if not more.
