Kingdom Come: Deliverance developer diary digs into the creation of its authentic fencing system

Kingdom Come

The latest developer diary for Warhorse Studios’ non-fantasy RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance digs into the creation of its raw, historically-inspired combat system.

You probably won’t find an RPG like Kindgom Come: Deliverance in our list of the current best RPGs on PC.

To develop this grounded combat system, Warhorse Studios went to both a choreography expert and a lecturer in European martial arts for advice. They say that development was a compromise between reality and getting the feel right, but they think they’ve settled on a nice middle ground.

Here, fighting an armoured enemy here will be completely different from fighting someone in rags. Armour is almost impossible to cut through, so you need to smash it with a mace, aim for the gaps between the plates, or perhaps even stick a dagger through the eye slit.

The video is a rather fascinating look at historic swordplay and it’s worth a watch for that alone. Warhorse Studios are saying all the right things when it comes to Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and I’m excited to see what they deliver in the upcoming beta. Watch the latest developer diary below:
