Rik Ede’s right, video game music is rarely given the recognition it deserves. The music beating beneath the surface of our favourite games is a core part of our enjoyment and compulsion to continue playing. That’s why Ede, a composer and audio producer who’s worked in the industry for more than two decades, is seeking funds to produce an album celebrating some of the finest composers working in the video games today.
Ede’s only looking for £7,000 to produce the album: Dolby and the artists are donating their time to the project; the funds are there to cover the cost of the mixing studio and the production of the DVD album.

If you don’t recognise at least a few of those games then you’ve picked a potted path through gaming history, there’s a vast spread of genres of both games and music scores in there. So, hopefully, most tastes should be catered for.
This isn’t the first time Ede’s tried to fund this project. Last month he launched the project with a funding goal of £22,000 and pulled the plug on it with a day left on the calendar having only raised £5,000. The £15,000 reduction in target’s been achieved by having the mixing studio come on board as an official sponsor, rather than simply be booked out for the project.
