Build a Hearthstone deck with only odd-cost cards and get a better hero power

Hearthstone lead designer Dean Ayala has discussed a new mechanic in the game’s next expansion, The Witchwood. It’s based on rewarding players for building decks with cards that cost an even or odd number in mana.

Here are all the Hearthstone: Witchwood cards  revealed so far.

Two new neutral legendary cards will deliver said rewards: Baku the Mooneater and Genn Greymane. Baku is a 9-cost 7/8 who will upgrade your starting hero power if you build a deck with only odd-cost cards. Genn is a 6-cost 6/5 who will reduce your hero power’s cost to one provided you fill your deck with even-cost cards.

Those cards are the linchpins of this mechanic, but there are a few other new cards that will benefit from it too:

  • Black Cat: 3 cost, 3/3, Spell Damage +1, Battlecry: if your deck has only odd-cost cards, draw a card.
  • Gloom Stag: 5 cost, 2/6, Taunt, Battlecry: if your deck has only odd-cost cards, gain +2/+2.
  • Murkspark Eel: 2 cost, 2/3, Battlecry: if your deck has only even-cost cards, deal 2 damage.
  • Glitter Moth: 5 cost, 4/4, Battlecry: if your deck has only odd-cost cards, double the health of your other minions.

Watch Dean lay it all out for you in the video above, along with some handy strategies and tips for taking advantage of the new mechanics. For more Hearthstone advice, check out the best Hearthstone decks for beginners.
