If you want to ascend Dehya and Alhaitham all the way to level 90, you’ll need to find lots of Sand Grease Pupas exclusively in Honkai Star Rail’s Desert of Hadramaveth. However, like other Ascension Materials, these Quicksand Eels can be tough to farm if you don’t know where to look.
Needing to gather plenty of resources to upgrade characters is nothing new to gacha games like Genshin Impact. Since so many Sand Grease Pupas are needed to fully ascend key characters, you’ll need to utilize all of their locations multiple times if you want to be efficient about it. That’s unless there’s any being given out as free rewards with Genshin Impact codes. Meanwhile, here’s what you need to know about finding and farming Sand Grease Pupas.
Genshin Impact Sand Grease Pupa locations
Each of the 74 Sand Grease Pupa locations in the Desert of Hadramaveth of Genshin Impact can be spotted in the interactive map image from HoYolab above. If you want to get the most by covering the least ground first, you can start in the east where 45 can be found around the Sands of Al-Azif.
Then, six can be found in the south, 13 in the southwest, five in the northwest, and another five in the north.
Keep in mind, however, that although some can be found above ground by breaking weathered rocks, most can only be found underground by using the Wenut Tunnels. If you get a bit lost trying to find any pupa in particular, you can use the interactive map yourself and zoom in to give you an exact spot.
So, be sure to use the map to find the nearest cave entrance and venture underground if any Sand Grease Pupas you’re after can’t be found above.
To make things far easier, you should have Tighnari in your party as their Passive, Encyclopedic Knowledge, makes Sand Grease Pupa locations pop up on your mini-map whenever they’re nearby.
Sand Grease Pupa respawn time
In Genshin Impact, Sand Grease Pupas respawn every 48 hours. As you’ll need 168 Sand Grease Pupas to fully ascend Alhaitham and Dehya each, you’ll need to come back to these locations every two days to continuously farm them until you have enough.
It will be a bit of a grind, but after you’ve gotten used to some of the locations after farming them once, it will become an easy effort.
