Dead Cells leaves Early Access in less than a month

dead cells release date

Dead Cells has been a thoroughly engrossing combination of Metroidvania and Roguelike – so much so that it’s managed to overcome the saturation both genres face here in 2018. It’s been tremendously successful in Early Access, and version 1.0 isn’t much further away. In fact, there’s less than a month to go.

You can play the final release on August 7, coinciding with the console releases across Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Hopefully you grabbed Dead Cells sometime before the last Steam sale, because it’s since seen a price increase bringing the cost to $24.99 / £21.99 / €24.99.

If you’re a superfan who needs some additional collectibles to accompany the release, you can grab a limited physical release of the PC version from Signature Edition. There’s also a beautiful vinyl edition of the soundtrack, if you – like me – are that particular brand of nerd.

Updates aren’t ending with the 1.0 version, as the developers say in the full announcement. New content is on the way, along with improved mod support to bolster the game’s existing Steam Workshop features.

Dead Cells sales numbers have been impressive up to this point, with 730,000 sold as of May 1. That’s an eyebrow-raising stat for a small-scale Early Access title, and it’s well deserved – hopefully that success continues into the full release.
