Darkest Dungeon’s first major DLC, The Crimson Court, coming early 2017

Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court

Indie mega-hit Darkest Dungeon has received more free updates than your average refill cup, but now it’s heading straight for a full expansion. The Crimson Court will hit in early 2017 and is focused around themes of noble vampirism and general evil, as you might expect from the game. That’s, well, just about everything we know.

How does Darkest Dungeon rate against the best indie games?

The only info we have is the announcement image below, and some hardcore speculation by the Reddit community.

Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court

The fangs clearly on display on the fellows at the back there plus, y’know, all the blood everywhere rather clearly marks them out as vampires. Mosquitos are playing a pretty heavy role there, likely meaning ever more diseases to infect your adventurers and end in their horrifying demise. The people are rather excited.

Darkest Dungeon is one of those games that benefitted extraordinarily from a very long Early Access period. It made mad sales and improved dramatically over the course of development, introducing characters, mechanics and dungeons. That might happen again here, with some sort of beta stage for the expansion.

We don’t even know for sure that it will be paid, though the use of “DLC” in the announcement would indicate it, plus how far out they’ve started talking about it and the lavish amount of free content the game has already received. Expect more word from Red Hook in the near future.
