Anthem will have a heat management system

Anthem Colossus Javelin

Anthem will have a heat management system. A gameplay demo from E3 shows that players will have to control the heat of their exo-suits, or Javelins, during flight in order to increase the amount of time they can spend in the air.

You may have noticed during Anthem footage that while Javelins are flying, a bar fills up towards the bottom of the screen. However, as the Javelin passes through a waterfall at around 14 minutes five seconds into the demo video (which you can view below) that bar empties again. On top of that, the UI in the top left corner says “cooled.”

It’s obviously not as complex a system as, say BattleTech, but it looks like it’ll mkae players think about how long they can spend in the air. It’s also very possible that flight time is something players can upgrade over time – Anthem will have no loot boxes, but players will have access to cosmetic upgrades as well as having the ability to upgrade their Javelins.

Yesterday’s E3 showing gave us our first look at Anthem in a year, and it revealed a whole lot. For one thing, we now know the Anthem release date. There’s also no Anthem PvP(at least, initially), something that some fans have expressed surprise at, given the similarities to games like Bungie’s Destiny or Ubisoft’s The Division.
